FAQ

Common questions, plain answers

Trust Exterminating answers common pest control questions here: how to schedule and prepare for a visit, how products are used around children and pets, how billing works, and what to expect after a treatment. For pest-specific questions, see each service page, and for cost questions, see the plans and pricing page.

Scheduling & visits

Do I need to be home for a visit?

For a first visit and any interior treatment, yes, or another adult needs to let us in. For routine exterior service on a recurring plan, you usually don't need to be there. We'll let you know when we're done and what we found.

How do I reschedule an appointment?

Reply to your appointment reminder, call the office, or contact your technician directly. Give us as much notice as you can and we'll find a time that works.

How long does a typical visit take?

A routine service visit on an average home often takes under an hour. First visits take longer because we inspect the whole property before treating. Termite, bed bug and crawl space jobs vary with the size of the home and the work involved.

Do you serve my town?

We work across Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia from our office in Benton, including Cleveland, Chattanooga, Ocoee, Ooltewah, Hixson and Dalton. If your town isn't on our service area list, ask. We'll tell you honestly whether we can reach you.

Safety for kids & pets

Are your treatments safe for children and pets?

We choose products with kids and pets in mind and apply them according to label directions, which is what the law requires and what keeps exposure low. No pesticide is risk-free, so we'll tell you exactly what we're using and any precautions that go with it.

How long should kids and pets stay off treated areas?

Until liquid treatments have dried, which is usually a short time but depends on weather and surface. Your technician will give you the specific re-entry time for the products used at your home.

What should I do with pet bowls, toys and aquariums?

Pick up food and water bowls and pet toys from areas being treated. Cover fish tanks and turn off their air pumps during interior treatment. Birds and reptiles are more sensitive, so let us know if you have them and we'll plan around them.

Can I see the labels for what you use?

Yes. Ask your technician and we'll tell you the product names and share the labels or safety data sheets. You have a right to know what's applied in your home.

Billing & plans

How do I pay my bill online?

Use the Pay Now button on this site. It opens our secure customer portal, where you can view and pay invoices.

Will I get a reminder before my service?

Yes. Our scheduling system sends a reminder ahead of each appointment, so you're not caught off guard.

Can I change or upgrade my plan later?

Yes. If your pest pressure changes, say a new termite concern or a mosquito problem in summer, call us and we'll adjust your service. See the plans page for how our plan types work.

Treatments

Why am I seeing more bugs right after a treatment?

That's common for a week or two. Treatments drive pests out of walls and hiding spots, and many die in the open where you can see them. If activity hasn't dropped after a couple of weeks, call us.

Should I clean or mop after you treat?

Avoid mopping or wiping treated baseboards and cracks for at least a week or two, since that removes product that keeps working. Normal cleaning of counters and the middle of floors is fine. Don't spray store-bought insecticides over our baits, which can make bait less attractive to pests.

Does rain wash away an outdoor treatment?

Once a liquid treatment has dried, light rain usually won't remove it. A heavy downpour right after application can, so we plan around the forecast and will come back if a storm hits before the product has set.

Can you identify a bug from a photo?

Often, yes. Send a clear, close photo with something for scale, like a coin, along with where you found it. If a photo isn't enough, we'll confirm it on site, because identification is the first step of every treatment.
